Abstract

For earlier work on carboranes see “Borverbindungen” 2,1974, pp. 1–288; “Borverbindungen” 6, 1975, pp. 1–150; “Borverbindungen” 11,1977, pp. 1–207; “Borverbindungen” 12,1977, pp. 1–306; “Boron Compounds” 1st Suppl. Vol. 3,1980, pp. 105–205; and “Boron Compounds” 2nd Suppl. Vol. 2, 1982, pp. 223–335. More recently, the general chemistry of the carboranes has been summarized in a number of accounts [1 to 4] and annual surveys [5 to 12]. Other reviews covering special aspects of carborane chemistry include: carborane-containing polymers [13 to 18], metallacarboranes [19 to 31], nomenclature rules [32 to 36], internuclear distances in carboranes [37], boron-11 NMR spectroscopy of carboranes [38], review of boron-substituted functional derivatives of C2B10H12 [39], and carboranes viewed in terms of “hyper-coordinate” carbon compounds [40].
