Abstract

When BI3 vapor mixed with argon or helium is passed through a microwave discharge, four new bands (at 349.8, 350.8, 3651.2, and 352.5 nm) degrading to the red have been observed and assigned to BI. It is assumed that the formation of B2I4 in this process occurs via the donation of the lone pair of BI into the empty 2p orbital of BI3 [1].
