Zusammenfassung

Es gehört zu den aufregendsten Erkenntnissen dieses Jahrhunderts, daß die für den Aufbau eines Organismus, seine Differenzierung aus einer befruchteten Eizelle und die Aufrechterhaltung seiner individuellen Funktionen benötigte Information als Basensequenz auf einem oder sehr wenigen DNA-Makromolekülen niedergelegt ist. Durch den Vorgang der Replikation wird diese Information mit einem hohen Maß an Genauigkeit kopiert und bei der Zellteilung an die Tochterzellen weitergegeben.
