Zusammenfassung
Als Stoffwechsel bezeichnet man jede chemisch bedingte Veränderung eines Stoffes in einem Biosystem. Der Stoffwechsel der Zelle ist ein offenes System chemischer Prozesse, welches durch verschiedene Membransysteme kompartimentiert ist. Jeder einzelne der zahlreichen Teilprozesse kann als ein Fließgleichgewichtsystem angesehen werden — wie auch die Zelle als Ganzes —,das durch einen ständigen Zu- und Abstrom von Stoffen gekennzeichnet ist. Dieses Gleichgewicht muß sich durch Regulation den verschiedensten Außenweltbedingungen anpassen. Gelingt diese Anpassung nicht, so liegt eine Fehlregulation vor. Jede Störung dieses Fließgleichgewichts, sei es durch Änderung des Zu- oder Abstroms, kann zur Krankheit führen.
