Zusammenfassung
Das Immunsystem ist ein komplexes System von Zellen und Faktoren, das the Organismus in die Lage versetzt, mit Infektionserregern und anderen Fremdstrukturen fertig zu werden. Die Instrumente dieses Systems sind über den gesamten Organismus verteilt mit einer Konzentrierung in den primären (Knochenmark,Thymusdrüse) und sekundären lymphatischen Organen (Lymphknoten, Schleimhaut, Milz, Haut u. a.). Die Zahl der immunologisch bedeutsamen Zellen wird auf 1012 geschätzt.
