Zusammenfassung
Der Citratzyklus stellt eine zentrale Drehscheibe des Stoffwechsels dar. Hier treffen sich die Stoffwechselwege der Kohlenhydrate, Fette und Aminosäuren wie in einem Kreisverkehr, von dem dann viele Straßen des Stoffwechsels abzweigen. Seinen Namen erhielt der Zyklus, weil eines der teilnehmenden Moleküle, das Citrat, das Tor zu diesem biochemischen Kreisverkehr darstellt.
