Zusammenfassung

Im Begriff Kohlenhydrate sind bereits die beiden wichtigen Bestandteile dieser Verbindungsklasse genannt: Kohlenstoff und Wasser. Zumeist enthalten Kohlenhydrate Kohlenstoff und Wasser im Verhältnis 1 : 1, was in der allgemeinen Formel Cn(H2O)n zum Ausdruck kommt. Es gibt aber auch Ausnahmen von dieser Regel, z. B. die Aminozucker oder die Desoxyribose. Je nach Größe von n unterscheiden wir:
