Zusammenfassung

Grundlegendes Ziel jeder Beatmungstherapie ist die Aufrechterhaltung eines ausreichenden pulmonalen Gasaustausches, d.h., der Oxygenierung des Blutes und der alveolären Ventilation. Daneben wird die Beatmung häufig für spezielle Zwecke eingesetzt, ohne daß eine Störung der Lungenfunktion vorläge, so z. B. bei der kontrollierten Hyperventilation zur Senkung des intrakraniellen Drucks.
