Zusammenfassung

Als unkonventionell werden Verfahren der respiratorischen Unterstützung bezeichnet, bei denen von der physiologischen Norm sehr stark abweichende Atemfrequenzen oder Atemhubvolumina angewandt werden, oder bei denen neben der konventionellen Beatmung zusätzlich ein künstliches Organ für den Gasaustausch eingesetzt wird, wobei sich das künstliche Organ außerhalb oder innerhalb des Körpers befinden kann.
