Entscheidend ist ein ruhiges und vertrauenerweckendes Verhalten. Neugeborene und Kleinkinder sind besonders dann, wenn sie hungrig und/oder müde sind, nicht sonderlich kooperativ. Relativ gute Untersuchungsbedingungen bestehen oft beim Trinken (Flasche) bzw. kurz vor dem Einschlafen.
