Atom Tunneling Phenomena in Quantum Solid and Liquid Helium

Abstract

In general, the tunneling rate of a particle depends strongly on its mass and the potential height. Since the mass of the electron is very small, there are many examples of tunneling phenomena in electron systems, for example, field emission from a metal surface and the Josephson tunneling of superconducting electron pairs through a weak link.
