Zusammenfassung
Im Jahre 1848 wurde erstmals durch Dalrymple das Plasmazellmyelom beschrieben und gleichzeitig von Bence-Jones der nach ihm benannte Eiweißkörper im Urin gefunden (zit. bei Dominok u. Knoch 1977). Die Bezeichnung „multiples Myelom“ stammt aus dem Jahre 1873 (v. Rustitzky). Kahler veröffentlichte 1889 eine Darstellung des gesamten Krankheitsbildes. Erst 1920 wurde erkannt, daß es sich um einen Plasmazelltumor handelte (Wallgren). 1940 schließlich wurde die Bezeichnung Plasmozytom eingeführt (Apitz).
