Zusammenfassung

Schon 1885 beschrieb Malassez (zit. nach Toller 1967) die nach ihm benannten Zeltreste der epithelialen Zahnleiste und nahm bereits an, daß sie Matrix für eine Zystenbildung an Zahnwurzeln sein könnten. Turner (zit. nach Toller 1967) bestätigte (1898) diese Vermutung. Er nannte die an devitalen Zahnwurzeln entstehenden Granulome „epithelial root tumours“.
