Abstract
We now generalize the Bisection algorithm used above to compute the positive root of the equation x2 − 2 = 0, to compute roots of the equation
where f: ℝ → ℝ is a Lipschitz continuous function.
Divide ut regnes (divide and conquer). (Machiavelli 1469–1527)
