Zusammenfassung
Bei der Photokoagulation mittels Laserapplikation im makulären Bereich können Laser verschiedener Wellenlänge Verwendung finden. Der Laser bietet zur Photokoagulation den Vorteil einer idealen Fokussierung zur Erreichung kleiner Spotgrößen und liefert als monochromatisches Licht den Vorteil recht definierter Wirkungstiefe, da die verwendete Wellenlänge den Ort der jeweilig maximalen Absorption im Gewebe bestimmt. Absorption ist die Grundlage der thermischen koagulatorischen Wirkung im Zielgewebe. Die Verwendung von kurzwelligem blauem Laserlicht ist aufgrund der Absorption im Xantophyll und möglicher retinaler Schädigungen zu meiden.
