Zusammenfassung
Alkoholkonsum ist Bestandteil des täglichen Lebens vieler Deutscher. Deshalb sind gesundheitliche Auswirkungen von Alkoholkonsum, sowohl negativer als auch positiver Art, von großer Public Health-Relevanz in Deutschland (Rehm et al. 1997a; Ashley et al. 1997). Dabei ist zu bedenken, daß Alkohol im Gegensatzau anderen Substanzen, wie beispielsweise Tabak, keine gleichförmigen Auswirkungen auf einzelne gesundheitliche Indikatoren hat (im Sinne von »je mehr Konsum, desto höher die Wahrscheinlichkeit des Auftretens von Krankheit X«), sondern daß unterschiedliche Trinkmengen zu quantitativ und qualitativ verschiedenen gesundheitlichen Auswirkungen führen können (s. English et al. 1995 als Überblick).
