Part of the book series: Advances in Neurosurgery ((NEURO,volume 11))

Abstract

Glial Fibrillary Acid Protein (GFAP) is regarded as an astroglial-specific component and its presence can therefore be used to control the degree of differentiation of glial elements (BIGNAMI and DAHL, 1974; 1977). This method is being used with increasing frequency in neuro-oncology, with some contradictory results, however (for review see De ARMOND et al., 1980).
