Die Problematik der häufig stigmatisierenden Nebenwirkungen herkömmlicher Neuroleptika hat sich mit der Einführung moderner Antipsychotika in die Therapie der Schizophrenie entscheidend verbessert. Um eine optimale und sichere Behandlung mit diesen Substanzen zu gewährleisten, sind einige — insbesondere internistische — Aspekte zu berücksichtigen.
