Abstract
Based on a total of 159 radiocarbon dates, we present a time frame of Troia I-VIII and Kumtepe, ranging from the late sixth millennium to ca. 840 b.c. We discuss the limitations imposed by the ‘old-wood’ problem of charcoal samples, and evaluate the date clusters of the Troia subdivision towards 0a ‘minimal age’ limit. We document the evidence that the beginning of Troia I coincides with a widespread cooling event in the North Atlantic.
