Abstract
From an economic point of view, the year 2002 was, not only as a consequence of the events of September 11th, a hard year for the European industry. This was also true for the automobile industry. Fears that the seven prosperous years from 1995 to 2002 could be followed by seven lean years are frequently being voiced. Others look to the future even more pessimistically and are already asking themselves whether a recession is inevitable.
