Destructive Action of Cavitation Bubbles Collapsing Near Boundaries

  • Chapter
Shock Focussing Effect in Medical Science and Sonoluminescence

Abstract

This paper is a review of the destructive action of cavitation bubbles collapsing near boundaries. Attention is first focused on the mechanism of impulsive pressure generation and subsequent damage pit formation resulting from single-bubble collapse near a plane rigid boundary. The following topic is concerned with the possibility of high-pressure generation by bubble collapse due to interaction of a bubble with other effects such as the shock wave-bubble, bubble-bubble, and bubble-curved boundary interactions.
