Abstract

Nonlinear photonic crystals, periodic arrays of dielectric materials along with light beams strong enough to change the dielectric constants, may bring to reality the vision of light controlling light in microscale photonic circuits, the analog of present day electronic integrated circuits where electrons control electrons. These integrated all-optical microphotonic circuits could perform a multitude of functions in optical communications systems, optical interconnections and optical processing.
