Abstract
The introduction of single-slice spiral CT in the early 1990s was a quantum leap for CT technology (Kalender et al. 1990; Crawford 1990). Spiral scanning with continuous gantry rotation, table-feed, X-ray exposure and data acquisition allowed for the generation of true volume image data based on overlapping transaxial image slices, without mis- or double registration of anatomical details. For the first time, 3-dimensional CT angiographic evaluation of vessels with contrast enhancement in different body regions was possible due to considerably improved spatial z-resolution, faster scan speed and larger volume coverage.
