Abstract
Boltzmann’s proposals are discussed in Sect. 7.1, leading to the concept of dynamical systems defined in Sect. 7.2. The idealization provided by the latter allowed the first formal responses to Boltzmann’s conjectures: the ergodic theorems of Birkhoff and von Neumann, reviewed in Sect. 7.2.
Yet, what is the law which brings this infinity to a fixed measure, and imposes order upon it, this is what I am eager to learn.
