Abstract
Topographically, a simplified view of China would consist of an awareness of such major features as, to the west the Himalayas, in the north the Loess Plateau fringing the Gobi Desert and, as one moved south the Yellow and Yangtse rivers issuing east and separated by the Tsinling Mountains. Finally, one could sweep an arc along the whole length of the China coast noting its hinterland of seaward mountains, plains and deltas.
