Abstract

According to the fundamental cosmic ray transport equation (14.1.6) energetic particles get accelerated both
  1. (1)

    by momentum diffusion (A2) due to cyclotron and/or transit-time damping of the electric fields of the ambient electromagnetic fluctuations, and

     
  2. (2)

    by momentum convection due to the compression, i.e. (dV/dz) < 0, of the cosmic ray scattering centers.
