Encryption Steps: Polygraphic Substitution and Coding

Abstract

Simple (monographic) substitution requires a complete decomposition of the plaintext in single characters. A polygraphic substitution allows polygraphic encryption steps, i.e., encryption steps of the form V (n)W (m) with n > 1.
