Thyroid Cancer

Abstract

The basic properties of differentiated (papillary or follicular) thyroid carcinoma (DTC) are seemingly easy to summarize. Modern surgery and intensive care allow the removal of the primary tumor and possible metastases with very low complication rates. Due to the relatively benign tumor biology and the capacity of differentiated tumor tissue to concentrate radioiodine, prognosis is favorable even if there are lymph node or distant metastases.
