Abstract
It as been said on different occasions in this book that the growth of an F face obeys a layer-by-layer mechanism while the growth of a K face is continuous. The growth mechanism of an F face can change to continuous if the roughness of the surface becomes so high that the oncoming molecules can find during their mean stay time, τs, a kink position to be incorporated. The appearance of different types of roughness of an F face in the states of stable or metastable equilibrium conditions have been already considered in Sect. 7.2. Hereafter we shall discuss their impact on the mechanisms of growth.
