Abstract

The expression “digital” is one of the elements of language which has frequently been used in the past few years and very often misused. “Digital” only means that there are elements which can be counted on the fingers. In the everyday language of information technology the expression “digital” is often used as a synonym for “sampled, quantised and presented in binary charac-ters”. In the field of electronic media technology “digital” is a mark of quality which was first used when the compact disc (CD) was introduced on the market and offered to the general public.
