Abstract
As in any ecological system, the balance sheet of the water economy of desert plants has a debit and a credit side. The credit side is represented by the water sources available to the plant and its ability to absorb this water, while the debit side is the water lost by the plant. In order to survive under drastic edaphic and atmospheric droughts, desert plants must intensify water absorption, as already explained, and reduce water loss.
