Abstract
In terms of quantity, aluminium is the most important world metal after iron and steel (Jochem and Bradke 1996). Over recent decades, however, the aluminium industry has undergone considerable structural change, resulting in a lasting decline in primary production, and secondary production has also recently sustained a fall in production.
