Abstract
Since their development at the end of the last century, three-phase cage induction motors have clearly demonstrated the superiority of their operating characteristics, the advantages they present for industrial applications, and their low manufacturing and maintenance costs. They remain the most popular general purpose industrial motors. However, integral-horsepower three-phase induction motors must be fed by three-phase power supplies, mainly available only in industrial plants.
