Abstract
Autoimmune diseases are disorders caused by a phenomenon called autoimmunity. Under normal conditions the immune systems is able to distinguish between self and non-self components of the body and the immune response is directed to foreign antigens only. Autoimmunity, however, causes the immune system to respond against the body itself.
