Abstract

The term proteome is defined as: The entire protein complement expressed by a genome,a cell or tissue type (Wasinger et al. 1995, Wilkins et al. 1996). It follows that proteomics is the study of proteomes, however the terminology now encompasses a broader field of research and has branched into two specific disciplines; classical and functional proteomics.
