Abstract
Facies analysis, as described in Chapter 4, begins with the art of interpreting single outcrops or, at most, small areas, such as a well-exposed cliff section. Paleogeographic analysis of an entire sedimentary basin requires the documentation of many such outcrops (or well sections), their correlation by stratigraphic methods (Chap. 3), and the use of various sedimentological mapping techniques. The latter are the subject of this chapter.
