Abstract
The advanced devices for coherent light generation can be divided into two categories: (i) devices based on mesoscopic semiconductor structures and (ii) optical fiber lasers. The first part of this chapter is dedicated to the presentation of mesoscopic semiconductor structures for light generation such as quantum well, quantum wire and quantum dot lasers and the second part describes several types of fiber lasers.
