Abstract
Pollution prevention is a concept and practice that has quickly taken us beyond our traditional “command and control” approach to controlling waste and toxic emissions. Because the concept focuses on not generating waste in the first place, it has forced companies to look at the flow of chemicals in the workplace and to look at where and why wastes are generated. Decisions related to pollution prevention have to be made before waste is ever generated from those involved in product and process design and operation, to those making decisions about materials use.
