Abstract
In consideration of the present market situation, there is an increasing demand on high quality products to a reasonable price. To meet these requirements, appropriate manufacturing technologies have to be defined and manufacturing resources have to be utilised in a sufficient way. Market’s imponderableness however, asks for a higher flexibility in production. Small and medium sized companies must therefore have high production flexibility to be able to meet the rapidly changing market situation, to meet the delivery dates, and to provide for the increasing demands regarding quality. Especially in automated assembly and disassembly systems, where the technology requires cost intensive resources (robots, end effectors and automated transport devices), a reliable planning of production systems has to be considered. Consequently, the planning of assembly systems as well as the generation of optimal assembly plans are of great importance.
