Epiluminescence Microscopy of Pigmented Skin Lesions

Abstract

Epiluminescence microscopy (ELM), also called in vivo cutaneous surface microscopy, dermoscopy, and magnified oil immersion diascopy, is an in vivo, non invasive technique for the diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions. ELM is a technique which has proved to be useful for the preoperative assessment of pigmented skin lesions in vivo, permitting to visualization of morphological features that are not visible to the naked eye.
