Abstract

The sphere of cartography has evolved rapidly over the last two decades. It now includes not only static, planar presentations but also dynamics (Shepherd 1995), interactive maps with graphics (Haslett et al. 1990; Dykes 1996; Dykes 1997), multimedia productions (Cartwright 1997), 3 dimensional static models (Raper 1989) and most recently multidimensional interactive models in which the ‘map user’ can participate in a multi-sensory experience — Virtual Reality.
