Abstract

The title “Self-consciousness as a Philosophical Problem” is ambiguous. On the one hand, it can be seen as what philosophers understand as”selfconsciousness” On the ot her hand, one could ask if that with which philosophers have dealt under this heading indeed were philosophical problems because it may well be that they are nothing but (disguised) empirical questions. In this chapter I shall try to present various problems related to this topic so that they will become recognizable as just different facets of one and the same problem.
