Abstract

Besides the stable electrons also several other leptons with rather short lifetime have been used successfully in solid-state spectroscopy. Most important are positrons and muons. If a positron is accommodated in a solid its lifetime depends critically on the environment and enables thus information to be drawn about the latter. Investigations of this type are known as positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS).
