Abstract
Although the earliest forms of plant life were aquatic, the relationship between water and seed dispersal of recent higher plants is derived from the other dispersal methods. Water, as an agent of dispersal, is primarily important for plants in or close to water and plays a limited role in the dispersal of land plants (Van der Pijl 1982).
