Abstract
According to Van der Pijl (1982) anemochory, although extensive, is regarded as a derived dispersal mechanism and one that is not characteristic of primitive flowering plants. Its preponderance in certain regions is thought to reflect climatic as well as biotic poverty (Van der Pijl 1982).
