Abstract

This paper contains a summary and a critical analysis of the test results provided by the members of the special working group that was established to evaluate the new GSFC/DMA geopotential models. Recommendations and specific conclusions on the suitability of each of the tested models for demanding geodetic applications are also included. The evaluation group’s work has led to the development, adoption and public release of a final model, called EGM96.
