Effects of Ground Vibrations on Absolute Gravity Measurement in Kyoto

Abstract

In October 1995, absolute gravity measurement using the FG5 (#104) gravimeter was carried out at the Supplementary Fundamental Gravity Station (Kyoto C) in Kyoto University by the Geographical Survey Institute. At that time, we set velocimeters and accelerometers beside the FG5 gravimeter, and made microtremor observation to examine effects of ground vibrations on absolute gravity measurement. As a result, scattering of measured absolute gravity values is closely correlated to ground vibrations within the frequency range from 3 Hz to 12 Hz, while significant correlation between the averaged gravity value and ground vibrations could not be found through our experiment.
