Abstract
One of the most difficult problems associated with PNs is that of their distances and dimensions. No other PN problem seems to have attracted so much effort with so little outcome than this “bone in the throat”, as Aller stated (1991) characterizing the crisis concerning this problem. In fact, at present we have no single method enabling one to determine the distances of PNs with an accuracy comparable to that of determining the distances, say, of ordinary stars and galaxies.
