Abstract
Universal kriging is a spatial multiple regression implementing a model which splits the random function into a linear combination of deterministic functions, known at any point of the region, and a random component, the residual random function. It turns out that in general this model needs additional specification because the variogram of the residual random function can only be inferred in exceptional situations.
