Abstract
Following an outline of time-dependent perturbation theory, we treat in detail the spontaneous and stimulated emission and the absorption of light by molecules. In particular, we derive the transition probabilities and the Einstein coefficients. The Franck-Condon principle and a discussion of the selection rules for transitions will again play an important role in our considerations.
